A Wylde Adventure in Singapore

Zakk Wylde is coming to Singapore for a meet-and-greet at Swee Lee Concept Store (Katong) on 30 November 2009 at 7pm! The event is open to the general public but we recommend that you RSVP (name and NRIC number) by today 6pm to Andrew at andrew.lum@gibson.com or call Swee Lee at 63449916. He will also be appearing live on Singapore TV on the Morning Show on ChannelNewsAsia on 1 December at around 9:15am.

For those who aren't too familiar with Zakk Wylde. this is what Wiki says:

Zakk Wylde (born Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt; January 14, 1967 in Bayonne, New Jersey) is an American musician, who is best known for his roles as a guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and founder of the heavy metal band Black Label Society. He was the lead guitarist and vocalist in Pride & Glory, who released one self-titled album in 1994 before disbanding. As a solo artist he released Book of Shadows in 1996.

He is known for his use of Gibson Les Paul Custom model guitars with a "bulls-eye" graphic on them, a design he used to deliberately differentiate himself visually from Randy Rhoads - who was also frequently identified by his white Les Paul Custom. Interestingly, one of Wylde's favorite stage guitars of late is a replica of Rhoads' Flying V. The "bulls-eye" paint job was originally supposed to look like the spiral from the movie Vertigo, but when it came back incorrect from the luthier, he liked the result and stuck with it.

Wylde's signature Les Pauls include a red flame-maple bulls-eye model, a black and antique-white bulls-eye model, an orange "buzz-saw" model, the pattern on which was inspired by a design on a Zippo lighter, and a "camo" bulls-eye model with mother of pearl neck inlays and a green camouflage paint scheme. His original bulls-eye Les Paul was purchased from one of the owners of Metaltronics Amplification. Metaltronics was building a one-off live rig for Wylde that was designed around one of the owner's guitars, a creamy white Les Paul Custom with EMG pickups, which would later become known as "The Grail".

You. Just. Gotta. See. This.

Local indie film director Jacen Tan AKA Hosaywood has done it again.

Made our jaws drop, that is.

This time around, he's teamed up with -- wait for it -- Singapore vedic metal band Rudra, to create an explosive visual fest.

Here's the mindblowing trailer.

Jacen says:

"Based on the song’s lyrics and concept, the explosive music video is a re-imagination of the ancient Sanskrit text ‘The Bhagavad Gita’, one of the most important philosophical classics of the world.

Shot entirely in front of a green screen, the video with high production values is set to break the boundaries of Singapore indie film productions. It interweaves brutal band performances with storyline battle scenes, created with visual effects compositing and computer animation."

Catch the full video, when it premieres on 7 December 2009, at The Substation.

More event details at www.hosaywood.com
.

And you can buy the new Rudra album, "Brahmavidya: Transcendental I" here.

As well as the official band t-shirt.

This is why we can't wait to check our email inbox every morning

Once in a while, on this site, we like to highlight some of the interesting emails that we receive everyday.

Well, okay, we've never actually done that before.

But never mind, there's always a first time, right?

So here's one that's really worth the attention.
Dear Walk On Music

My name is Calvin Joseph Phua and I recently came across your site, through a friend of mine. I am a singer/songwriter, mostly playing originals with folk and pop influences. I've been playing the guitar for 4 years or so, been influenced by artists like Neil Young, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and more recently, City and Colour and John Mayer. I have recently released a self produced, self released EP consisting of 4 songs, all written and performed by myself. Please do check out my music here.

Regards,
C.J.P.
Yup, that's the friendly Mr Calvin Joseph in the photo above, and after careful listening, we think his voice 'n' acoustic guitar EP should rank right up there with all the better local albums.

Check out, especially, his original song called "To You".

Dude also plays in a band, called The Repose.

This is them in action:

And here's how they sound.

Listen and enjoy.

Local music is looking good.

And thanks to C.J.P. for getting in touch!
