Returning for the second time, Toronto-based Holy F**k managed to wow the audience with their brand of dancey noise rock on the night of 16 Nov over at Avalon (yes, that massive lopsided glass case floating on off the dock of Marina Bay). Without much fanfare, the band unassumingly took to the stage, & then in an instant, kicked into a full-on slice of revved-up motorik that set the tone for much of what was to follow. It's like the Chemical Brothers playing krautrock, or a gritty, dancing cousin of Battles. There just wasn't a soul keeping still.
Much has been said about the less-than-desired sound quality of Avalon, but on this night, it worked in Holy F**k's favour. Even if the levels were unintentionally mixed up, it certainly gave the music this trippy sensation that seemed to float in & out of the clubs's speakers. Chaotic & euphoria both co-existing at the same time. Utterly amazing & unforgettable. Come back again, guys!
